The annual gala benefiting the Gravette Public Library was held Saturday, November 3rd. It was another mystery dinner event, this time set in the 1950s. The room was filled with attendees dressed in poodle skirts, rolled-up jeans, and leather jackets. Music was provided by Pat Bell and the dinner was catered by Steven Martinez. David Barber conducted an auction that was lively and entertaining. Will Trentham served as emcee and local citizens participated in the mystery game. We appreciate your contributions that made this an enjoyable and successful event.
The City of Gravette provides the library building, utilities, staff salaries, book purchases, and other operating expenses. Fundraisers support the library's programs including Story Time art, Saturday Scientists, teen programs, Maker Space, and more. The net proceeds from this year's gala, including the Hog Raffle, was $4,172.73. Thank you!
The library staff is looking forward to 2019. Plans are under way for the Seed Swap and Summer Reading Club. It was discovered that a Friends of the Gravette Public Library had been formed in 2000 but hasn't been active. Several of our Library Advisory Board members are going to leave the board to serve in the Friends organization. We're seeking new board members to fill these openings. If you live within the City of Gravette and are interested in serving on the Library Advisory Board, please contact the library director at 787-6955 ext. 3. There will be more information about the Friends group at a later date.
