What is a Maker Space? It's a collaborative area where people share space, tools, and equipment to make things.
Teen Tuesday Maker Space started June 5th. Our first project is to build a Little Free Library to be placed by the Hiwasse Community Center. The structure was assembled, the interior shelves were painted, and we registered the Little Free Library on littlefreelibrary.org. When we receive our sign with the charter number, we'll put this Little Free Library on the world map. Although we'll complete this project June 12th, there are more activities ahead. Anyone going into 7th - 12th grades is welcome to participate. There is no cost. This program was made possible by a grant from Walmart DC #6051.
We're planning to grow Teen Maker Space into an after-school program. Maker Space provides opportunities to learn by doing, develop problem solving skills, and acquire knowledge and skills that can become the foundation for a career.
