Have you noticed changes at the library?
At the beginning of 2017, the adult and young adult fiction books were, for the most part, shelved alphabetically according to the author's last name. If you were looking for Science Fiction novels, you had to know what authors wrote Science Fiction. Now the books are in collections according to genre: Classics, Westerns, Romance, Thrillers, Horror, Graphic Novels, Historical Fiction, Christian Fiction, Military Fiction, Science Fiction, General Fiction, Biographies, and Adventure. We also have a section of Large Print books.
Books for young readers were in KidSPACE at the front of the library and the chapter books for older children were in the back of the library. Now all children's fiction books are in KidSPACE and are identified as board books, picture books, story books, and Junior chapter books. Because children learn colors before decimals, all children's non-fiction books have been color coded. A color key is posted to help children find the books they are seeking.
The space at the back of the library is being converted to the "Teen Zone." We plan to create some conversation areas and expand the young adult book collections.
The library uses a computer system to catalog items, check items in and out, manage membership records, and create reports. The Gravette Public Library is switching to a new computer system, Atriuum, on May 8th. Atriuum includes an OPAC (on-line public access catalog) which will allow patrons the convenience of searching the library's catalog from home. Search results will include book covers, authors notes, and first chapters. Patrons will also be able to place holds on items and renew their items on-line.
We hope that you'll stop by the Gravette Public Library. The library is located at 119 Main St. SE.
