The Gravette Public Library is pleased to host a Seed Swap from 10 am - 2 pm on Saturday, March 17th. This is a community event where gardeners may bring in surplus or saved seeds. I don't know about you, but I have many more seeds than my square foot garden can hold. Out of 125 Sweet Banana Pepper Seeds, I need only four. If you're bringing saved seeds, please place them in envelopes or Ziplock bags labeled with the common name and planting instructions such as planting depth and sun requirements as well as days to germination and maturity.
We hope that beginning gardeners will attend, even if they have no seeds to share. The Seed Savers Exchange, through the Herman's Seed Donation Program, is sending 100 packets of seeds. We should have plenty of seeds to go around.
Members of the Benton County Master Gardeners and the NWA Master Naturalists organizations will be here to answer questions and explain Square Foot Gardening. We'll have a seed planting activity for children.
There will be a raffle of items to include a Folding Garden Kneeler Bench, a "Seed Starting" basket, a "Square Foot Gardening" basket, a "Salad Lovers" basket, a "Books & Blooms" basket, and a basket donated by Ree Drummond, the Pioneer Woman.
Seeds remaining at the end of the day will be donated to the Benton County Sheriff's Office gardening program for inmates.
We appreciate the Bank of Gravett for sponsoring this event.
